The Importance of water intake

Water.

I can talk your ear off about water.

There are so many benefits to drinking water and one main one is SURVIVAL.

Our body is made up of about 60% water and we are losing it everyday through metabolic functions such as breathing, sweating, urinating, etc. And when we’re sick we lose it through vomiting and diarrhea as well.

With all of this output of water we need to counterbalance it by inputting lots of water.

Before we get into that I want to note some other benefits of drinking water other then survival. We all know we need water to survive, but did you know you also need water to recover from physical activity and reduce cramping, it aids in fighting stress, combats hunger, helps promote clear skin, supports digestion and keeps you energized, just to name a few. If you aren’t reaching your fitness goals, try looking at your water intake because you may have plateaued because your body is dehydrated. Your muscles need water to repair and build.

Water is VERY important, yet most of us either “don’t like to pee every 30 minutes”, “hate the way it tastes” or “forget”.

If you hate the way it tastes, try adding lemon, mio or crystal light. I would just advice you to check the sugar content and choose one with low sugar. You can also supplement with BCAAs or EAAs and add those into your water for a better taste.

If you forget, set a timer on your phone or watch that reminds you every hour to drink water. You can also write it down on your to-do list for the day if you like to check things off like I do. I also recommend getting a reusable water bottle and carrying it on you at all times like it’s your child.

Another way you can get your water intake in is eating veggies and fruits that contain water such as celery, apples, oranges, watermelon, tomatoes, etc.

If you don’t like to pee every 30 minutes, that is one you are just going to have to get used to.

Water is just so important and it’s amazing how many people don’t drink an adequate amount. Everybody should be drinking half to their full body weight in oz of water per day.

I hope this little tidbit helps!
